Introduction to English Legal System

A preparatory course for University of London programmes, providing a comprehensive idea of a common law jurisdiction and intensive training in legal English

Graduate Diploma in Commercial Law

This course is only available to those who already have a higher education degree but who need deeper, expert knowledge of English law. 

Lawyers from other jurisdictions take this course when they do not want to study at the long LLB programme or they intend to take the LLM course later. GDCL covers only 4 modules, and you can study from 1 to 5 years taking exams in 1 or 2 modules a year.

LLB Degree University of London

A law degree that can become a big step to the career of a common law lawyer. You can choose a qualifying degree that will make your way to a lawyer’s qualification easier later on. 

The student can choose between to studying schemes: 

Standard Entry Route

Available for high school graduates and those who already have a higher education degree. Consists of 12 modules (subjects) that the student studies over 4 years, taking 3 exams a year.

The programme consists of 5 modules fundamental to understanding the English law:

  • Legal system and Method
  • Contract law
  • Criminal law
  • Public law
  • Commercial law

Delivery mode:

  • 80 contact hours
  • live classes in Zoom 
  • access to the system of distance learning, where students can find recorded classes and course materials
  • completion of test tasks and their assessment by the teacher 

First year:

Adam Gearey is Professor of Law at Birkbeck College, University Of London. He is author of, most recently, Lives That Slide Out of View: Poverty Law and Legal Activism (Routledge, 2018), 'Ditches' in Goodrich et al (eds), Research Handbook in Law and Literature (Elgar, 2022), and “The More He Argued, The More Technical He Became”, Surplus Value in the Law of Trusts, in Critical Trusts Law, eds Piska and Gibson (Oxford: Counterpress, 2022). He has taught jurisprudence and legal theory for the International Programme of the University of London for a number of years.
