Founded in 1836, it includes 18 world-famous colleges and many research institutes. Among the alumni there are seven Nobel laureates, politicians, judges, writers, scholars, and chief executives.
The University of London Law Consortium is responsible for the laws programmes. It consists of six renowned colleges: UCL, Queen Mary, Birkbeck, Kings, LSE, and SOAS. The law schools or departments of these Сolleges actually design and develop the University of London Undergraduate Laws programme LLB that has a well-earned international reputation as the golden standard of legal education in common law countries.
Getting an internationally recognised law degree opens new perspectives of professional work in global economy. Confirmed with a degree, professional knowledge in different jurisdictions is an inarguable advantage of modern lawyers that enhances their reputation and gives a positive trajectory to their career development. Our programmes can be of interest for high school graduates aiming to develop their careers abroad as well as for practicing lawyers who want to deepen their knowledge in the area of English law.
The academic year lasts from mid-October to April inclusive. May is a period of exams administered by the University of London.
In ECLS, students who entered remote law programmes of the University of London get sound academic support along all the modules from experienced and highly qualified teachers from England. All the exams are taken in writing in the student’s country, in local exam centers. The University of London administers and grades the exams, and issues all the higher education documents.
To begin your studying, you need to register with the University of London as a student, and, using your login and password, get access to all the resources and learning materials necessary for the course. Access to the ECSL distance learning system can be obtained through personal login and password too.
All the learning materials and teaching are in English.
Recommended learning intensity is 3 modules per year. If you plan to complete 3 modules, you’ll have to spend studying at least 15 hours per week.
If you work, or study simultaneously, or have other commitments, we do not recommend taking more than 3 modules per year due to a high risk of failing at exams.
Upon finishing another module, students take a 3-hours written exam in local exam centers in their countries. Two independent examiners in London mark the students’scripts. Grades are awarded on a 100-point scale by the University of London Examination board.
The LLB program is available for high school graduates (after 12 years of studying) and university students (as additional education). It also suits professionals who need knowledge in common law jurisdiction due to various reasons.
Graduate Diploma in Commercial Law programme is only available for professionals with higher education degree.
LLB is a basic legal education that opens a perspective for professional work as a lawyer in a common law jurisdiction, while LLM implies obtaining advanced knowledge in a particular area of a common law jurisdiction.
